Despite having 49+ days left to close out their round of funding the company has already blown past their $500,000 minimum and already has over $620,000 in commitments from Aussie investors keen to get a piece of the action.
West Winds Gin was founded back in 2011 and create uniquely flavoured gin using Australian botanicals such as wattle seed, bush tomato, sea parsley, lemon myrtle, cinnamon myrtle and fresh lemon peel. These unique flavours have clearly been a hit for the company as West Winds is the only distillery to hold three Australian Champion Gin Awards.
The company is looking to raise up to $3,500,000 at a more than $8.6m valuation with the funds to be used towards providing working capital for bottles and packaging, gin distillation and production costs. A portion of the funds will also be allocated towards marketing and an expanded international sales strategy.
Currently, the company has two main sales channels. Within Australia the company primarily uses third party liquor distributors who manage the sales and distribution of West Winds Gin to on-premise and off-premise accounts. Collectively, these distribution agreements provide 20 sales representatives across the east coast, 10 in Western Australia and 3 in South Australia.
Internationally, the company started exporting the West Winds Gin in 2013 and currently has international distribution into countries such as New Zealand, Canada, the UK, France, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Cambodia.
The company does however have a focus on three major export markets which cover the UK/Europe, North America and selected regions in South-East Asia.
So far these sales and marketing efforts have seen the company generate $2.6 million in revenue (FY 2017) and are forecast to hit $4 million in FY 2018 which seems reasonable given the company has already hit $2.75 million in the 9 months to March 2018.
